Frans Gregersen, professor emeritus in Danish at the University of Copenhagen, has been particularly active in the field of linguistics known as sociolinguistics, and has played an active and central role in the development of this branch of research in the Nordic countries. As director of the extensive project LANCHART (Language Change in Real Time), he has contributed new and important knowledge about how language is changing. For many years he has maintained important contacts with the linguistic environment in Uppsala.
