COVID-19 report, 2 July

No new cases have been reported for three weeks in the University and in week 25 (21–27 June) only 37 cases were noted in all of Uppsala County. The situation is also stable in Region Gotland, where 12 confirmed cases were reported that week.

“There are still zero confirmed cases of new infection at the University and we now also have the lowest number since last summer in Uppsala County as a whole,” says Fredrik Blomqvist, Chief Security Officer and coronavirus coordinator at Uppsala University.

Uppsala University is now preparing for the start of the 2021 autumn semester. These preparations include planning to help international students and employees entering the country with mandatory testing on day 1 and day 5, if necessary.

“Uppsala University, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Region Uppsala will continue to have weekly coordination meetings to closely monitor developments. One innovation for the start of the autumn semester is that student hosts will be present in person to help and welcome new students at campus areas that request this during the first two weeks of the semester.”

During the summer, the University’s campus areas will be returned to normal, for example, by replacing furniture in lecture halls, in preparation for a return to on-campus teaching from the start of the semester.

“This week’s report concludes the weekly reports on the coronavirus situation at Uppsala University. In the autumn, reports will be published as needed, not on a weekly basis, and of course we hope there will be no need for any reports this autumn.”

When an infection is confirmed, the disciplinary domain concerned deals with the question of whether teaching should continue to be conducted on campus (if that is currently being done) or whether there is reason to switch to online education. Region Uppsala carries out contact tracing and contacts the individuals deemed necessary in view of the contacts reported by the infected person. The University has no responsibility for this process.
