About the course
Philology applied to Old Norse texts is a scholarly discipline with offshoots to both linguistic and literary sub-disciplines. Graphonomy, palaeography and grammar in a broad sense are combined with interpretive science and edition philology in order to constitute the tools, together with historical surrounding disciplines, for explaining the content of a text, what meaning it has, and what relation it has to other texts and the society. In the course, it is discussed how Old Norse texts have been edited and dealt with in different contexts. The discussions aim to evaluate both traditional and new philology critically.
