Rules for downloading e-resources

The use of e-resources is governed by agreements with the respective providers.

What is allowed?

In most cases* you may

  • digitally copy individual documents from the databases for non-commercial purposes, i.e. download individual documents.
  • print out downloaded documents

What is not allowed?

  • Downloading large numbers of articles or entire databases
  • Downloading entire journals
  • Forwarding a downloaded document to someone else.

* For some e-resources, there may be more restrictions on printing and downloading. This is particularly true for e-books where the content is primarily intended to be read directly on the screen.

Providers monitor downloads and possible misuse. Systematic downloading may result in the suspension of access to all e-resources from one provider for the whole University.

You can often read information about the terms and conditions that apply to a specific e-resource when you open it. If there are any terms of use you are wondering about, you are welcome to contact the Library.
