Personal injury insurance for non-employees

Uppsala University provides, through an agreement with Kammarkollegiet, a personal injury insurance for non-employees who take part in university activities, for example professor emeritus/emerita. Swedish state insurance for foreign visitors

The University has signed an insurance for foreign visitors by Kammarkollegiet, which automatically covers all foreign citizens who participate in Uppsala University's activities, as employees or non-employees. The insurance also covers accompanying family members. The insurance covers emergency medical and dental care protection, but also covers accident protection, home transport protection, liability protection, legal protection and a certain property protection.

The insurance does not cover students at the undergraduate or master's degree program registered in Uppdok.

The insurance is valid around the clock within the Schengen area with the exception of property protection, which only applies in Sweden. This applies if the insured has a Schengen visa. If the insured does not have a Schengen visa or if the insured has a residence permit in Sweden, the insurance only applies in Sweden.

From 2024-01-01, the definition of those covered by the insurance for foreign visitors is adjusted. What's new is that the insurance is valid until the visitor obtains a Swedish personal identity number. For accompanying family members, the insurance is valid until the family member obtains a Swedish personal identity number. When a person is registered in Sweden (folkbokförd), the person receives a personal identity number. Individuals who are registered have the right to the same subsidized healthcare as Swedish citizens. With a personal identity number, the person also has better opportunities to take out private insurance.

Insurance certificates, a certificate proving that a you are covered by the insurance, will be filled in by the host if necessary.
