Potential jobs or a PhD

Depending on what Programme you have studies, the career paths may differ.

International Business

Internationalisation plays a critical role in modern business, and the International Business specialisation prepares you for a wide variety of roles. You can choose to work for an organisation, become an entrepreneur, or continue your academic career. You will get the skills you need to lead as a manager or business analyst both in Sweden and abroad.

Marketing

Studies on the Marketing specialisation will provide you with the skills to analyse and manage current industry challenges. You might choose to work as a manager, marketer or business analyst for an organisation, become an entrepreneur or continue your academic career.

Organisation

The Organisation specialisation prepares you for a wide variety of career paths - whether you choose a position within a private or public organisation, start your own business or continue on to an academic career. Possible roles include consultant, researcher, intelligence analyst and information specialist in public relations or communications.

Accounting, Governance and Financial Analysis

With the Accounting, Governance, and Financial Analysis specialisation, you will be prepared for work in many different fields both in the private and public sector, in the international job market, or to continue your career in academia. It prepares you for several roles after graduation whether your goal is to work as a CFO, controller, auditor, financial analyst or management consultant, or start your own business.

Strategic Management Control

The Strategic Management Control specialisation prepares you for a variety of roles in the field of organisational development - including controller, chief financial officer (CFO) and management consultant. Knowledge of the link between management control and organisational development is important to facilitate business development. You may choose to work in the private or public sector in the international job market or become an entrepreneur. The programme also lays a good foundation for further research studies.

The business savvy and entrepreneurial skills you will obtain on the Entrepreneurship Programme, will give you a unique profile and edge in whatever you decide to do in the future. You may choose the path of a company founder to develop and grow your own firm, or work for the development of already established companies or organisations. You will receive entrepreneurial talent and skills to improve ongoing operations or start your own business.

With a Master's degree in Sustainable Management, you will be prepared to launch a successful career in the private or public sector, and in a local or international context. You may choose to help ensure a firm's accountability by leading strategy development, or work as an analyst of the social and environmental effects of business. Previous students work with sustainability issues in private organisations (such as Adidas and IKEA), in non-profit organisations (Alberta Ecotrust Foundation, Atmosfair), consultancy (SAP in South Africa) and in support agencies (chamber of commerce in India), to name a few places.

The programme and the acquired interdisciplinary skills will give you a unique profile and edge and will prepare you for a variety of career paths. You may choose between the public and the private sector. Within the private sector, possible employers can be found amongst multinational corporations or national businesses with the ambition of going international. Possible employers in the public sector include international agencies and organisations dealing with international trade (such as EU agencies or international trade agencies) as well as different national authorities (such as national trade boards).

Possible future job roles include all sorts of interdisciplinary advisory functions within or on behalf of organisations. Your acquired skill set should also qualify you for managerial positions. Besides, the programme gives you the opportunity of pursuing an academic career in interdisciplinary teaching and research.

Alumni survey

In 2021, the Department of Business Studies conducted an alumni survey among those who had finished their education on one of our Master's Programmes, during the period autumn 2016 to sprin 2020. The Programmes included in the survey were the Master's Programme in Business and Management, the Master's Programme in Accounting and Financial Management, the Master's Programme in Sustainable Management, and the Master's Programme in Entrepreneurship. The results show that the students, to a high degree, would recommend the Programme to others.

Within six months after finishing their education, 83% of our former students had gotten a job, for which their academic education was relevant. Many of our alumni work with different Business services, such as accountancy, PR, advertising, or as consultants or advisors. It is common for our former students to work within the bank and finance sector.

During job interviews, our alumni found it important to be able to show their personal characteristics. It was an advantage to be able to show that they had good cooperation skills, were good at problem solving and could communicate well. To have previous work experience within the same field was another advantage.

Many of our alumni work abroad after finishing their Master's studies. Those who stay in Sweden mainly work in the Stockholm area. A majority work at enterprises with more than 250 employees.

Parts of the Master's Programmes that was highly appreciated was how business cases were incorporated in the education, that they got to develop and improve their analytical and critical point of views, and how they got to work on their problem solving skills.
