ANCAP - African Network for Chemical Analysis of Pesticides and Other Pollutants

The African Network for Chemical Analysis of Pesticides and Other Pollutants (ANCAP) was established in July 2002 in Kampala, Uganda. The founder member countries were Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, while Rwanda, Sudan and Zimbabwe joined later.

ANCAP is a legally registered scientific body devoted to the study, promotion and development of the science of all aspects of chemical analysis of pesticides, including residue analyses, degradation and environmental fate.

ISP support started in 2001 to promote the formation of the network. Currently, the coordinating office is in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and the Executive Secretary is Dr Aviti Mmochi at the Department of Chemistry, University of Dar es Salaam. The supreme body of ANCAP is the Coordinating Board.

Objectives

The overall objective is not only safeguarding public health and the environment, but also ensuring the safety of African agricultural and aquatic products thus making them competitive on the world market, thereby significantly contributing to the continent’s poverty reduction. The network arranges exchange of students and researchers, conferences, and yearly summer schools.

ANCAP has received funding from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) for workshops and training.
